The Rev’d George W. Loewer Pastor

The Rev’d George W. Loewer

Pastor

Pastor George W. Loewer was born on December 5th, 1951 in the Bronx, NY. He was baptized at the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany on February 17th, 1952. He attended Lutheran schools, and was first introduced to an “evangelical catholic” understanding of Lutheranism at Our Saviour High School, pastored by The Rev’d Dr. Berthold von Schenk. Pastor von Schenk was a leader in the liturgical movement and advocate for the weekly celebration of the Mass in Lutheran congregations. Pastor Loewer graduated from the Lutheran Seminary, Philadelphia and received Ordination as a presbyter at St. Stephen’s Church, Feasterville on May 17th, 1977 by Bishop William Jansen. His first call was to St. Michael’s Church Kensington Philadelphia, where he served 21 years. During that time, the Lutheran Book of Worship was introduced and a weekly celebration of the Mass established. Outreach to the neighborhood became more intentional. The Lutheran School of Kensington was founded in 1979, with Pastor Loewer serving as principal. The Good Samaritan Food Pantry was started, distributing food to needy families two days a week. In May of 1998 Pastor Loewer received a call to Zion Bristol where he continues to serve. During his tenure, the church sanctuary and narthex have been remodeled. A wood ceiling replaced acoustical tiles and laminate flooring replaced carpeting. Acoustics have been improved considerably. Pastor Loewer considers it his privilege to serve as Zion’s pastor, where the Mass is the center of parish life. Thankful to God, that the people of God are nurtured by God’s Word and strengthened to serve by the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist.

Dylan David Shaw, Organist & Parish Musician

Dylan started with us at Zion in April 2025. A native of Philadelphia, was enraptured with the pipe organ from a very young age. He began lessons on the piano at age five and then on the organ at age eleven. Dylan frequented the Grand Court at Wanamaker’s to hear the evening concerts. Through these regular visits, he became well acquainted with Wanamaker Grand Court Organist Peter Richard Conte and the late Michael Stairs, former organist for The Philadelphia Orchestra. Dylan continued organ studies with and served as a console assistant for Michael Stairs. For nearly 11 years, Dylan served as an Assistant Grand Court Organist for Peter Richard Conte at the Wanamaker Organ, where he performed several concerts each week, with programs ranging from Bach’s works to the occasional Disney tune.

In addition to his duties at the Grand Court, Dylan is an Associate Organist at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, home to the Largest Musical Instrument in the World—the Midmer-Losh Organ. He has been featured in recitals for the Acme Organ Institute’s Oktoberfest in Indiana, as well as YouTube videos for the institute. Dylan has served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. As a primary core of his repertoire, Dylan focuses his efforts on transcribing and performing orchestral literature, including Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite and Rossini’s Overture to “Il Turco in Italia”.  Shaw is a great fan of Sir Arthur Sullivan and has created numerous transcriptions, including the “Overture” to HMS Pinafore and the charming and popular “Overture di Ballo”. In his spare time, Dylan likes to cook and paint and enjoys listening to Heavy Metal music.
